Beginning thousands of years ago, the Lenni Lanape created villages and used this fertile river valley for crops. In the last few centuries, Europeans, primarily, farmed the rich riparian land and worked the forests. Railroads, developed to transport resulting products, declined with the advent of a modern road system. Some were repurposed for tourism. Look for the RR tracks, cattle fencing, and stonewalls.
